Glastonbury 2008: The Verdict

Picture: Tony Benn speaking about  climate issues and  'The Zimbabwe Situation'.

So, they said it was going to be the worst Glastonbury ever. They said it was a mistake to book Jay-Z. They said no-one would turn up.

Well, they were wrong. About all three. Glastonbury came and we went. It was truly brilliant. Early arrival on the Wednesday (I say early, I mean about 4ish) meant there were fantastic days to be spent exploring the site and making friends with our new neighbours.

The highlight had to be the Editors. Their first alubum was amazing, so when news came of the second album, I wasn't particularly bothered, thinking nothing could top 'The Back Room'. Wrong. 'An End Has A Start' is the moody dark indie rock album we've yearned for. I DESPERATELY hope Tom Smith and the boys will become Glastonbury regulars. Who's up for a petition?

With electrifying perfomances from the Verve and Jay-Z, this was definately a sucess story. The range of exotic, vegan and good old english (food for the more simple among us) is never-ending.

The only downside is that the poorer ticket sales meant that instead of the hardcore music fans who usually go, the tickets ended up being sold to some have a go thieves so saw fit  to steal a friends belongings- right out the bag they were wearing- which correlates with the higher rates of crimes reported this year.

A welcome surpirse was watching Glasvegas on the John Peel stage on Friday. I'm convinced they're set to be the big band of 2008- watch out! I've already got my wellies packed for Glastonbury 2009.
